What is This? The Demystification of Islam: Peace and Terrorism, Brief History, Principles, and Beliefs Dr. Saif Ataya
Please join us for an interesting conversation regarding a brief history of Islam for Muslims and Non-Muslims to learn about the religion and the many different interpretations of it.
Dr. Ataya has been an Arabic and cultural professor for the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center (DLIFLC) since 2005 and for the Department of Defense (DoD) since 2003. Since 2007, Dr. Ataya has taught both the intermediate and advanced courses- modern standard Arabic (MSA) and Arabic Iraqi, Egyptian, and Levantine dialects-in the continuing education (CE) Resident Education Program and the Field Support Program. Prior to his assignment to CE and Field Support, he taught both MSA and Iraqi at DLIFLC in Monterey, California. He developed various foreign language programs for the United States military and U.S. Special Forces, such as Arabic Iraqi, Levantine, Farsi, Dari, Urdu, and Pashto, to provide familiarization courses to deploying military personnel. Prior to his position at DLIFLC, he worked for the U.S. government and was a military cultural advisor for 2 years in Iraq for the Coalition Provisional Authority (CPA), assisting Iraqi and U.S. officials in creating a new democracy in that country in a time of war and peace. Before his service to CPA, he worked as a military/political advisor and language interpreter in Iraq in Operation Iraqi Freedom. Dr. Ataya holds a PhD in Educational Leadership from Keiser University, Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and a Masters of Education in Adult Education and Administration from Jones International University in Centennial, Colorado. Dr. Ataya holds a BA in Education and Literature with two majors (History and Geography), and a minor in Psychology from Al-Mosul University, Iraq.
