Visual Arts Instructor

Sandhills Community College seeks applications for a full-time Visual Arts Instructor. Instructional duties will include teaching topics in the Associate in Fine Arts in Visual Arts degree program, using a variety of delivery modes: traditional classroom, online, hybrid, weekend, mini-mester, and evening. Additional faculty duties include assisting with student recruitment, advising students and performing support duties as assigned by the department chair. Class sessions may take place on the Sandhills Community College campus and on Moore and Hoke County high school campuses. Ability to integrate with other disciplines and support technology programs is a plus. Interviews for the position will include a teaching demonstration and an oral/written assessment conducted in a computer environment.  

Required Qualifications:

  • A master’s degree or higher in communications or a master’s degree and 18 graduate credit hours in Visual Arts.
  • Solid foundation in 2-D design, 3-D design, ceramics, sculpture, observational drawing and digital media.
  • Active professional practice and exhibition record.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, creative skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in classroom curriculum development.
  • Ability to teach Art Appreciation and/or Art History courses.
  • Experience working with and sensitivity to the needs of a diverse student population.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Community college teaching experience and credentials to teach in additional discipline(s) are preferred.
  • Two years of higher education teaching beyond the graduate assistant level.
  • Knowledge and experience teaching 2-D design, materials-based 3-D design, sculpture and ceramics courses in the classroom.
  • Secondary teaching expertise may include any of the following: observational drawing, life drawing, digital media and/or photography.
  • Expertise in graphic software and digital printing technology relevant to the foundation experience including Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Online teaching experience using Moodle.
  • Experience working with and sensitivity to the needs of a diverse student population.
  • Experience advising students.
