Conquering Mt. Kilimanjaro: Fundraising Opportunity

Whispering Pines, NC - Would you or someone you know be interested in having your company mascot/logo carried to the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro while also helping quench deadly thirst plaguing desperate communities?  Local Moore County Green Beret veteran Ben Powers, in conjunction with retired Green Beret and NFL professional Nate Boyer, other military veterans, and NFL professionals volunteering with the Chris Long Foundation, are climbing Kilimanjaro this February to raise funds for clean water projects in Africa.  You can help support this local veteran while also supporting the need for clean water in Africa.  Current businesses actively supporting Ben and his Conquering Kili effort include:  The Pilot Newspaper, The Sway, Hatchet Brewery, TruFit Gym and the Raleigh Deloitte office.

As a Moore County business, you have the opportunity to become involved.  Ben will carry with him on his climb to the 19,340' summit a company flag or mascot item for the top five (5) donors.  Ben will take a photo with your donated item at the summit and return the photo in a custom engraved 9x12 plaque recognizing your company contribution which will help bring water equity and economic stability to communities in need.  In addition to this recognition, donors also can receive the following:

  • All donors will receive group recognition for their contribution through national and local media outlets.
  • The top ten donors will receive a signed photo of the NFL and Veteran team at the summit.
  • The top five donors will receive a plaque containing a photo of the company designated flag/mascot at Mt. Kilimanjaro's summit.
  • The top donor has an incredible opportunity to receive an authentic ceremonial Maasai Shuka from Tanzania, a large ceremonial blanket and garment given to warriors' coming of age after defeating a "lion." Today's Maasain's culture "lion" is the lack of access to clean water that is decimating the few remaining traditional African cultures.  Which is why the leading "warrior" supporting this effort is recognized with a Shuka, for displaying effort and unity to communities in need through your contribution.
  • For any donations exceeding $2,000, a personalized press release from NFL professional Chris Long and his foundation further highlighting the impacts made from the contribution to various national and local media outlets is available.

The non-profit 501(C)(3) Chris Long Foundation mobilizes ambassadors, service providers, and experts to help communities access clean water, address basic needs for youth and families, and inspire others to make an impact at home and abroad, which provides life-giving water and all that comes from it, including education opportunities, improved health, and economic stability to impoverished communities in Africa. Volunteers are comprised of a group of veterans, NFL professionals, and clean water advocates who embark on a 5 day and 45-mile climb February 23 for the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro, a walk that represents the miles that many African women journey on a daily basis to fetch water for their families.

Hatchet Brewery will be dedicating a portion of all proceeds on their February 14th Conquering Kili Pint Night towards the fundraiser in Ben’s name.  We encourage you to stop by 490 SW Broad St, Southern Pines to show your support and meet Ben Powers!

Please contact Ben Powers at (810) 299-1998 if you have questions or would like to enter the running for a chance at your company's mascot reaching Kilimanjaro's summit.  All donations will be provided with the appropriate tax and administrative documents for documentation purposes.  All donations interested in being considered for the top 5 must be at the minimum committed in writing by 10:00am February 18th to allow time to collect the item to be taken to Kilimanjaro.  Donations interested in being considered for any other gratitude prizes must be made in writing by March 3rd, 2023.
