MCLI Pinecrest Project

For Immediate Release
September 17, 2019

As a long-standing program created by the Moore County Chamber of Commerce, we are a team of county-wide leaders committed to learning about and improving Moore County.  One of our main goals is to organize a meaningful project that will have a lasting impact on our community.

Today, we write you to ask you to consider investing in a Moore County student. You may not be aware, but there are many homeless children and teenagers right here in our own community. It’s an phenomenon that most people associate with more urban communities, but data shows that homelessness for students in rural areas is just as much of a challenge as in urban areas. Counselors at Pinecrest High School and other institutions have alerted us to this growing concern and we have decided to dedicate time and attention to this urgent matter. We believe that we can sustainably serve this population in a very direct and practical way—with your help!

In order to bridge a gap in service, our group will be gathering in-kind and monetary donations to provide a safe place for students to take care of their laundry needs while at school.  We are looking for a front-loading washer and dryer and stocking up on laundry detergent, laundry supplies, clothes hampers, hangers, and other necessary items for students to use.  We are hoping to start this project at Pinecrest High School and then expand operations to other schools. Are you willing to be a part of this project?

If you would like to make a monetary contribution please send send your check to Sandhills Student Assistance (SSA) at P.O. Box 2154 Southern Pines, NC 28388. Please indicate on the memo line that it is for the MCLI Pinecrest project. All money donated to this cause will be tax-deductible and statements will be provided by SSA.
We thank you for your contribution and for investing in this project!
