Village of Pinehurst Prepares Ahead of Winter Storm

PINEHURST –The Village of Pinehurst is closely monitoring forecasts ahead of a significant winter storm expected to bring icy conditions, extreme cold, and potential power outages to the region. Village officials are coordinating with regional and county partners and preparing resources to respond as conditions evolve, with public safety as the top priority.

Village leadership will continue to assess conditions and operational needs throughout the weekend and will share verified updates through official communication channels.

Road Conditions & Public Services

Public Services crews are actively treating roadways in advance of expected ice, focusing on primary routes and known problem areas. Residents are urged to avoid unnecessary travel and use extreme caution if travel is required.

Solid Waste & Recycling Update

Due to the closure of the Moore County Landfill on Monday, the Village of Pinehurst is currently planning to operate one-and-done curbside solid waste and recycling service on a one-day delay beginning Monday, January 26.

This schedule may be further altered due to road conditions and any additional closings at the landfill next week.

Parks, Recreation & Library Closures

  • All Parks & Recreation events, games, and facility rentals are canceled Saturday and Sunday.
  • The Given Memorial Library will be closed Saturday.

Emergency Shelter Information (Moore County)

Moore County will open an emergency shelter Friday, Jan. 23 at 3 p.m. The shelter will be in the Moore County Sports Complex located at 155 Hillcrest Park Lane in Carthage.

Neighborhood Advisory Committee (NAC) Meeting

The Neighborhood Advisory Committee meeting scheduled for Monday, January 26, remains on the calendar at this time. A decision regarding postponement or changes will be made by Sunday, January 25, at 7:00 p.m.

Public Meeting Rescheduled
The Sandhills Metropolitan Planning Organization (SMPO) Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP) Public Workshop originally scheduled for Monday, January 26 has been rescheduled to Feb. 9, from 3-6 p.m. at Assembly Hall.

The Village appreciates the community’s flexibility and encourages residents to attend the rescheduled workshop to share input on the region’s long-range transportation planning.

Given Memorial Library Groundbreaking

The Village is also monitoring weather conditions in advance of the Given Memorial Library Groundbreaking Ceremony, scheduled for Tuesday, January 27, at 3:30 p.m., at the future library site on Magnolia Road, north of the Pinehurst Police Department. A final determination regarding the event will be closer to the event, with updates shared through official Village communication channels.

Safety Reminders

Residents are reminded to take the following precautions during extreme cold and potential power outages:

  • Never run generators inside homes or garages.
  • Do not bring grills or outdoor cooking equipment indoors.
  • Do not charge devices in a running vehicle while inside a garage, even with the door open.

These practices help prevent carbon monoxide poisoning and other serious hazards.

Keep an eye on each other. If the power goes out, please check on your neighbors and the elderly. Reach out to the Pinehurst Police Department for assistance.

Device Charging

  • Device charging will be available in the lobby of the Pinehurst Police Department, located at 420 Magnolia Road (heat may be unavailable if power is disrupted).
  • Due to limited space, charging is intended for short visits only. Seating and work areas are not available, and charging time may be limited to approximately 30 minutes so others may also access the service.
  • Exceptions will be made for medical or urgent needs. Availability may change based on conditions.

Stay Informed

The Village will continue to share verified updates through official communication channels. Residents are encouraged to monitor Village announcements and reserve 911 for emergencies only.
