marketing takes online information & uses it to tailor the message to the consumer.
Behavioral targeting uses a variety of web analytics, computer applications, browsing & search history etc., to create user profiles for it?s individual consumers. You may feel that your company doesn't have that data, but the majority of companies, large or small, have all the information they need.
