Moore County Chamber and Moore County Schools Celebrate 2026 Career Technical Education Signing Days
SOUTHERN PINES, NC – Throughout the month of May, the Moore County Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with Moore County Schools, proudly hosted the 2026 Career & Technical Education (CTE) Signing Day celebrations.
Held at each of Moore County’s high schools, these events recognize graduating seniors who are committing to career pathways that include technical education, military service, apprenticeships, employment, and postsecondary training immediately following graduation.
Modeled after traditional athletic signing ceremonies, CTE Signing Days highlight students who are choosing hands-on, high-demand career paths and preparing to make an immediate impact on the workforce.
“We are proud to continue this partnership with Moore County Schools and celebrate students who are taking the next step toward meaningful careers,” said Linda Parsons, President and CEO of the Moore County Chamber. “These students are making important decisions about their future and choosing pathways that are essential to the strength of our local economy. Whether they are entering the workforce, pursuing additional training, or serving our country, they deserve to be recognized for their commitment and ambition.”
This year, 36 students participated in the celebrations, joined by family members, teachers, school leaders, mentors, employers, military representatives, and community supporters. Students from Union Pines High School, North Moore High School, and Pinecrest High School were represented. This year's Career & Technical Education Signing Day marked a historic milestone for Moore County Schools with the celebration of its first-ever student apprenticeship. Following a successful pre-apprenticeship experience, the student received an apprenticeship offer from FirstHealth of the Carolinas, demonstrating the power of partnerships between education and industry to create meaningful career pathways for local students.
"We are proud to celebrate Moore County Schools' first student apprenticeship, a milestone that reflects years of collaboration among our schools, business community, and workforce partners," said Dr. Lisa Scott. "Seeing a student progress from a pre-apprenticeship experience to an apprenticeship offer with FirstHealth of the Carolinas is exactly the type of outcome we hope to create, one that benefits students, employers, and our community."
The students recognized during the ceremonies are pursuing careers in fields such as healthcare, skilled trades, public safety, manufacturing, automotive technology, information technology, and military service. Their commitments reflect the growing need for a strong and skilled workforce across Moore County and beyond.
“CTE Signing Day gives us an opportunity to celebrate students who are turning their passions into purposeful career paths,” said Dr. Lisa Scott, Director of Federal Programs, Grant Administration, and Career Technical Education for Moore County Schools. “These students have worked hard to develop technical skills, earn certifications, and gain valuable real-world experience. We are proud of the choices they are making and excited to see the impact they will have in their industries and communities.”

CTE programs provide students with opportunities to gain hands-on experience, earn industry-recognized credentials, and in many cases, receive college credit while still in high school. Through partnerships with local employers and institutions such as Sandhills Community College, students are better prepared to enter the workforce with confidence and relevant skills.
“The Chamber, Moore County Schools, and our business community all play a role in preparing students for long-term success,” Parsons added. “Career and technical education help students explore their interests, connect with employers, and build the skills needed for today’s workforce. These signing days are an important reminder that there are many valuable pathways to success.”
